The Caribbean Netherlands (2015) Saba

On October 10, 2010, The Netherlands Antilles dissolved into 3 new territories: Curaçao and Saint Martin (Sint Maarten) joined independent status as Aruba previously received, and remaining islands (so called “BES islands”) formed the Caribbean Netherlands (Dutch Caribbean). These 3 new territories started to issue own stamps, labelled as Curaçao, Sint Maarten and Caribisch Nederland, respectively. I received my first cover from the Caribbean Netherlands on 2011. Unfortunately, the postal service in the Dutch Caribbean (operated by the Nieuwe Post Nederlandse Antillen (NPNA) based in Curaçao) didn’t work well. As a consequence of repeated compliances on bad quality of the postal services in the Caribbean Netherlands, The Minister of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation has appointed new postal operator for the Caribbean Netherlands. Since Jan 1, 2014, The Flamingo Express Dutch Caribbean started operating the postal service for this territory (for a period of 10 years). The new operator started to issue separate stamp issues for each of 3 islands. Therefore, each island (Bonaire, Saba and St. Eustatius) has own stamps of the Dutch Caribbean with the inscription of the islands’ name.

For collectors, this means that 3 new territories can be collected :).

My first new item arrived recently from the Saba island. Saba-2015_stamp Pat sent me nice postcard from his travel to this island. He used stamp of the bird series issued on 2014 (one first 3 issues). Thank you very much! Saba-2015_front

Nicaragua (2014)

NI_shortage-of-new-stamps_2014

Very interesting cover received via the CCCC from Dr. Jean-Michel Maes. He wrote me that postal service of Nicaragua run out of the stamps and thus now uses old stamps with the old currency. Stamps before 1990 became invalid unless it is approved by the postal service. And this is example of such a cover validly using old invalid stamps (using the old currency) in recent times.

Thank you very much for great cover related to postal history!

Karl Weiland, the OM member of CCCC sent me this wonderful cover commemorating the Falkland Islands sovereignty referendum. Citizens of the Falkland Islands voted in a referendum on political status of the territory on 10–11 March 2013. Falkland Islanders were asked whether or not they supported the continuation of their status as an British Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom in view of Argentina call for negotiations on the Falkland Islands sovereignty dispute. They voted to remain a British Territory.

Paraguay (2014) Christmas

PY_christmas-2011 PY_christmas-2011_backThis cover received already on January is of special interest to me. Because. Firstly, similarly to most of my last missing countries, I have already tried to receive cover from this country for several times, unsuccessfully. Secondly, Paraguay was the last missing country in America and the Caribbean. Thus by receiving this country, I have completed my third continent (after Europe and Antarctica). And lastly, postmarks are simply beautiful, making this cover one of the most beautiful ones among covers received from South America :). Received with great help of the DINACOPA in Asuncion, Paraguay. Thank you very much!
