The EU Council is an essential decision maker which together with the European Parliament (EP) adopts legislation and coordinates EU policies.

However, relations gradually thawed as Germany offered to pay reparations in 1952, and diplomatic relations were officially established in 1965.

France (2014) Council of Europe

This cover was received more than a year ago. I decided to add this cover in order to have my geographical collection complete :).

Council-of-Europe

Council of Europe was founded in 1949 as an advisory international organisation promoting co-operation between European countries in the areas of legal standards, human rights, democratic development, the rule of law and cultural co-operation. Nowadays it has 47 member states and it is independent from the European Union. There is a post office in the Council of Europe building in Strasbourg with its own postmark. The organisation has also own special issues of French stamps inscribed with the “Conseil de l’Europe”, but all French stamps are valid at CoE post office.

This cover was received with kind help of the postmaster of the Council of Europe post office. Thank you very much!

Poland (2015) World Youth Day

PL_SDM_2015

Roman (as a CCCC circuit) sent me this interesting FDC commemorating the World Youth Day. Its history began with Pope John Paul II’s invitation to young people in 1984 to come to Rome for Palm Sunday. More than 300,000 turned out for the celebration. The following year – 1985 – coincided with the United Nations International Year of Youth. Then on December 20, the Pope announced the first official WYD meeting for 1986. The 2016 World Youth Day in Kraków will mark 30-years since first official World Youth Day gathering.

Thank you very much Roman!
