Niger (2015)

Holger visited another african country and sent this great cover from this hard-to-get country. Thank you very much!

Niger_1This is the example of regular cover, which arrived on March 16. It has postmark of Philatelic Bureau in Niamey lacking the date with extra postmark of March 9 from the post office clerk.

Niger_registerdThis is example of registered cover from the Republic of Niger, which was sent at a same day as the regular cover above. It has different postmark. It arrived two days later than the previous cover, i.e. on March 18.

Cape Verde (2015)

Although many collectors consider african archipelago of Cape Verde an “easy-to-get” country, it was difficult country for me. Couple of previous attempts failed, eventhough my cover was delivered to Philatelic bureau (and postage used was correct). Finally received as territory #254 because of help of Holger, who visited this country on January this year. Holger prepared two perfect covers and sent them on Jan 14 from Santa Maria (Sal).

When leaving Cape Verde, the registered cover was already one day delayed compared to regular cover (see obverse side of covers), arriving to Czechia 5 days after the regular cover. This is caused by different handling operations of regular and registered mails. Thank you very much Holger!

South Ossetia (2014)

South Ossetia in the Caucasus mountains represents a puppet republic in hands of the Russian Federation. Similarly to Abkhazia (officially belonging to Georgia too) and Transnistria (belonging officially to Moldova), it is also politically isolated due to its dispute status – unrecognised independent status. Unlike the Crimea, these 3 territories were not annexed by Russia.

There are a lot of stamps in the market that are sold as stamps of South Ossetia, but the vast majority of them were never used for postage and are cinderellas (often of unknown origin).

Searching for information on postal service in South Ossetia (or Abkhazia) is challenging. Some sources says that the postal service is operated by the Russian post. I was not sure what stamps are in use for mailing the post from the Tskhinvali (Цхинвал; capital of South Ossetia) to Russia or worldwide. There were reports on the new issue of stamps in 2013, commemorating National Symbols of South Ossetia and political relations with the Russian Federation (see for instance here). This registered cover is proving that the 2013 issue of South Ossetia is valid for postage for mail from Tskhinvali.

Thank you very much for sending me this extraordinary cover! 🙂

Christmas in Central Europe (2014)

Czech Post issued a Christmas stamp this year (unlike previous year). It is the second stamp on the cover from the right and it depicts the Bethlehem in Winter by Czech painter Josef Lada. The first stamp (from right) on this cover is one stamp out of 25 from the series “The Advent”, which is private issue of the Czech Post (so called “My Own Stamps”). The information about this series on the webpages of Czech Post is unfortunately in Czech language only. This series was issued on Nov 12, 2014, part of the issue (10.000 stamps) was issued as a box with postcards sharing the motif of stamps. The postmark is special pictorial Christmas postmark of the Boží Dar (Gottesgab in German, “God’s Gift” translated to English), the city in the Krušné hory Mts. (Erzgebirge, Ore Mountains). Besides the interesting name of the city, it is also the highest elevated city in the Czech Republic.

Slovakian Christmas issue of 2014 depicts the stained glass from the Church of the Assumption in Chynorany. There is a collection of 8 stained glasses in this Church, one glass shows newborn Jesus with Mary and Joseph. The pictorial postmark is of the “Christmas Post” (Vianočná pošta) in the Rajecká Lesná village. Cover was kindly sent by Miloš, thank you very much!

Florian has sent me beautiful Christmas cover from other neighbouring country. Thank you very much! The stamp used on this cover is Christmas issue of 2011 (issued on 11-11-11) depicting St Quirinus in Sellrain. More important is the postmark on this cover – traditional Christmas postmark from the Postamt Christkindl, which is located right next to the Christkindl pilgrimage church. The “stamp” in the left upper corner is label from the “Postamt Christkindl” as well.

Moldova (2014) European Union

Republic of Moldova (Moldavia) stands at historical crossroads. It is now more or less in hands of people of Moldova whether they join the big European family or return to cultural isolation. On the June 27, 2014 European Union signed the Association Agreements with Moldova, which is commemorated by stamps on this cover.

This perfect cover was sent by Gheorghe from Chisinau. Thank you very much!

Vanuatu (2014)

It is always pleasant, when the mail from the Philatelic bureau has classical stamps. The Vanuatu Philatelic bureau belongs to those few ones, which prepares great covers :).

Hi, my name is Radim, born in a year of Dragon, interested in Botany and loving flags on stamps :). I am collecting nice covers and postcards thaít are addressed to me. And because I love travelling and it is impossible to see all the nice places of the world, I therefore wish to receive covers or/and postcards from as many countries as possible. Just to "touch" the distant places virtually :-).
I will deeply appreciate if you can help me with cover from any of worldwide country. I miss 10(11) countries (+ 2-3 distinct territories) in my collection, but I will appreciate any nice cover from any country sent to my address :)
